IGF-1 is a type of growth factor. It’s often taken in a variety of forms by bodybuilders and athletes wishing to enhance their muscle growth efforts. IGF-1 solution, like testosterone, is a prescription-only drug.
A number of nutritional supplements on the market today are designed to boost production of growth hormone (GH) manufactured in the pituitary gland and IGF-1, which is manufactured in the liver.
Along with testosterone, these two hormones, more than any other, are perceived to boost strength, physical performance, sexual libido, endurance, and stamina. But what exactly does IGF-1 do in the body, and what makes IGF-1 LR3 results different?
IGF-1 is one of several growth factors that are similar in structure to insulin. These hormones are manufactured in the pituitary gland and liver following instructions sent through neurotransmitters from the hypothalamus.
IGF-1 LR3 is simply a synthetic protein that has a longer analog than IGF-1. IGF-1 LR3 is defined by the manufacturer as an 83 amino acid analog of endogenous or body-produced IGF-1. It’s been modified to include 13 amino acids that are extended on its N terminus. It also substitutes the amino acid arginine for glutamine at position number three.
The modifications to the complete endogenous IGF-1 sequence makes IGF-1 LR3 more potent in vivo and in vitro, than IGF-1. The bottom line is that this solution is designed to provide enhanced biological activity and can potentially have increased potential in efficacy than synthetic or recombinant insulin. Insulin-like growth factor-1 is a peptide that, as mentioned, is very similar not only in size but in structure to insulin, with approximately 70 amino acids.
IGF-1 LR3, because of the additional amino acids and the change in position of glutamine rather than arginine, is two to three times more potent than IGF-1, mainly because it’s not rendered inactive by IGF-binding proteins, as is IGF-1.
According to Rasa Research , a laboratory that creates chemical products for medical research, IGF-1 has long been known to play important roles in cellular growth, in apoptosis, defined as “programmed” cellular death, as well as cellular division.
It’s also an important part of the process of glucose transfer across cellular membranes. IGF-1 has also been researched in its ability to inhibit development of adipose (fat) tissue and in encouraging fat-burning potential for energy.
IGF-1 LR3 also known as Long Arginine 3-IGF-1, or Long r3 IGF because of its added amino acids and substitution in the position of glutamate acid for arginine. This alteration initiates a decreased ability of the substance to bind to IGF proteins. In addition to the increase in potency, its half-life is prolonged to approximately 20 to 30 hours.
IGF-1 and any variations thereof, including IGF-1 LR3 is important in growth and development of muscle mass in animals and humans. These growth factors are commonly being studied for their potential benefits in the treatment of a number of skeletal muscle and other conditions including but not limited to:
Despite the fact that a number of prescription-only drugs and synthetic hormone treatments such as growth hormone, testosterone, and estrogen are used to treat specific medical conditions like decreased hormone production, athletes and bodybuilders often turn to illegal procurement of such drugs for enhanced muscle growth, strength, endurance, and stamina.
The IGF-1 LR3 solution is highly anabolic. A number of bodybuilding websites and research into peptides claim that use can promote a gain of 1 to 2 pounds of lean muscle mass during use. Are these benefits worth of the risk of injecting hormones into your body?
Injection of peptide hormones can affect the endocrine system and metabolism. In higher than recommended doses, use of IGF-1 alone or IGF-1 LR3 can increase the risk of hypoglycemia or low blood sugar levels. Because IGF-1 makes things grow, it can also enhance growth of cancerous tumors. Headaches are one of the common IGF-1 LR3 side effects when injected.
